Canadian building permits in April dipped 0.5% from March to $11.1 billion (CAD) but jumped 76.1% from the year-ago period. After reaching a 14-month high in April, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit Mexico Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in May was 47.6, falling 0.8 points from April. U.S. Home Sales Down in April
U.S. sales of new single-family homes in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 863,000, decreasing 5.9% from March but 48.3% higher than the comparable month last year. The seasonally adjusted estimate of new homes for sale at the end of April was 316,000, representing a 4.4-month supply at the current sales rate.

U.S. residential furniture factory orders in March jumped 96% above the comparable month in 2020 when many manufacturers were closed but were still 40% over 2019. Year-to-date orders were up 50% over the first three months of 2020 and rose 21% from February. Furniture shipments rose 34% over March 2020 and grew 13% from February.
U.S. RV Shipments Set Monthly Record
The U.S. RV Industry Association’s monthly survey of manufacturers reported that April shipments reached a monthly record at 51,813 units, rising 9% over the previous high in April 2018.
